The structural performance of near-optimized truss core panels

چکیده
Theoretical studies have indicated that truss core panels with a tetragonal topology support bending and compression loads at lower weight than competing concepts. The goal of this study is to validate this prediction by implementing an experimental protocol that probes the key mechanical characteristics while addressing node eccentricity and structural robustness. For this purpose, panels have been fabricated from a beryllium–copper alloy using a rapid prototyping approach and investment casting. Measurements were performed on these panels in flexure, shear and compression. Numerical simulations were conducted for these same configurations. The measurements reveal complete consistency with the stiffness and limit load predictions, as well as providing a vivid illustration of asymmetric structural responses that arises because the bending behavior of optimized panels is dependent on truss orientation. 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Designing a prefabricated sandwich composite roofing system Made up of resisting facings and light-weight concrete core with truss-shaped connectors
In this paper, a new roofing system is introduced, which is constructued using the precast composite sandwich panels. This roofing sandwich panels system consists of three kinds of precast concrete sandwich panels including capital panels, beam or between columns panels, and slab or middle panels. The panels are composed of three layers; A high strength reinforced concrete top layer. A thick la...
متن کاملA protocol for characterizing the structural performance of metallic sandwich panels: application to pyramidal truss cores
All-metallic sandwich panels with truss and prismatic cores have impending application as ultra-light load bearing panels amenable to simultaneous active cooling and blast resistance. To facilitate application, a protocol for characterizing the structural performance of such panels is needed that can be used for design calculations. An approach capable of realizing this objective is presented a...
متن کاملShear and bending performance of carbon fiber composite sandwich panels with pyramidal truss cores
Structural performance in direct (pure) shear and three-point bending was investigated for sandwich panels with a carbon fiber pyramidal truss core. Analytical estimates for sandwich panel strength for each loading condition were presented for possible competing failure modes. In the experimental part of the study, pyramidal truss cores were made using the hot press molding technique and then a...

The performance characteristics of a truss core sandwich panel design based on the 3D Kagom e has been measured and compared with earlier simulations. Panels have been fabricated by investment casting and tested in compression, shear and bending. The isotropic nature of this core design has been confirmed. The superior performance relative to truss designs based on the tetrahedron has been demo...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Composite Lattice Structures Fabricated by Electrical Discharge Machining
We present a novel method for fabricating carbon fiber composite sandwich panels with lattice core construction by means of electrical discharge machining (EDM). First, flattop corrugated carbon fiber composite cores were fabricated by a hot press molding method. Then, two composite face sheets were bonded to each corrugated core to create precursor sandwich panels. These panels were transforme...
